AUTO COOL 85 R/T
The Auto Cool R/T is the combination of the Auto Cool 85 and a coolant pump controller. Both the fan and pump controllers are pulse width modulated to save energy.
The Fan current is rated at 85 amps and fused at 100 amps direct current. The pump is rated at 40 amps and is fused at 50 amps. The base (heat sink) is made from heavy 1/8 inch aluminum plate and will never rust.
If you have a large cubic inch engine and a stock coolant pump, the engine could have over heating problems at low RPM. This
is due to low coolant flow from your stock belt driven pump! This was discovered with a 1955 Chevy with a 570 cubic inch engine under the hood.
Auto Fail Safe:
The R/T will auto trip the Fail Safe if high temperatures are detected at the outflow port. You can manual trip the Fail Safe at any time with a push button on the dash board. A RED LED on the PC board will light up if the fail safe is tripped. After the temperature has been lowered, you can reset the Fail Safe by pushing the button on the dash board.
Pump Minimum RPM aka Flow Rate:
A small control pot on the side of the controller next to the seven pin terminal will control the minimum coolant pump RPM. Use this to set the low (idle) RPM engine temperature. The Fail Safe temperature trip mode can be calibrated by a small pot on the PC board.
A/C Fan RPM:
A small control pot on the side of the controller will set the fan or fans RPM with the A/C system on. The radiator temperature mode will override the A/C fan RPM mode. If you want to turn off the A/C fan on the freeway, put a switch on the dash to turn off the +12 volts to pin six from the compressor DC.
Cool Down Timer:
When you turn off the ignition, the fan(s) and pump will stay active for about 15 seconds and then turn off. If you want to extend this cool down timer to ONE minute, remove the cover and move the small jumper on the printed circuit board.
When you start the engine cold, the fan will not spin, however, the pump will start at the minimum RPM that has been preset. Once the radiator outflow port has warm to hot coolant flow, the fan will start to spin slowly and the coolant pump will increase the flow rate. As the engine reaches its operating temperature the fan and pump will have constant RPM.
Two Light Emitting Diodes aka LEDs:
The printed circuit board has two LEDs. The GREEN LED is ignition ON and the RED led is Fail Safe has been tripped.
The R/T has three 10-32 brass terminals. The FAN A and the FAN B should be connected together to one or more fan's return wire. The center brass stud is connected the pump return wire.
Grounding the case:
Be sure to ground the bottom chassis with the 8/32 screws and terminals provided.
The Auto Cool R/T is 7.0 inches wide by 6.5 inches. The height is 2.0 inches not including the control knob of 0.7 inches
