MARK VIII Speed Step™ Fan Controller
This is the fan kit seen in the October 2011 issue of Car Craft Magazine and a nice write up in Kit Car Builder Magazine
This relay kit was specially designed for the demands of the Lincoln Mark VIII and Taurus two speed fans and can be used with our control timer kit to run the fan up to 5 minutes after the car is shut off. This is original Speed Step™ kit that others are now imitating but they won't offer the one year warranty we offer or the anytime you call support we offer.
The fan kit works like this, your fan comes on at 185F controlled either by a temp switch or the PCM and if you need additional cooling you can use a toggle or the optional 200F temp sensor to switch on High speed or if using a PCM it automatically goes to high when needed. When it goes into High speed it will automatically shuts off the Low speed circuit so you’re not powering both Low and High at the same time. Once it has stepped up to high and cooled sufficiently the fan will step back down to low and then to off. This design eliminates the high spikes of a high speed startup. In the event you do have a high speed start then the dual high speed relays will handle up to 300 amp spikes and 120 amp constant draw.
The kit has two 60 amp high speed water tight sealed relays that are wired in parallel to handle a combined 120 amp constant draw and a 300 amp spike and one water tight sealed 60 amp low speed relay that handles 150 amp spike, one 50 amp J case fuse with sealed fuse holder not a shrink wrapped mess, one 180F temp sensor or 195F sensor, you pick, It also comes various connectors, shrink tubing and installation instructions. This kit will allow the LSx GM PCM to control the Mark VIII or Taurus fan or stand alone with thermal sensors.
Why you want this kit over others.
1. If a relay fails you can get a regular 40 amp 5 prong relay from any auto parts store and get back on the road. 75 and 80 amp relays can be a PIA to find on a road trip.
2. The kit is designed to carry 100% above the load and spike capacity of the Mark VIII fan. Meaning the normal load is 30 on low and our relays are rated at 60 amps. High speed is wired to take 120 amps and 300 amp spike. If your above those amperages your fan is toast. Older fans may draw more amps.
3. The relays are sealed water tight and have Negative Spike Suppression so when the fan turns off high or low speed the excess amperage doesn't blow back into your electrical system. The relay contacts are AgNS02 (Silver Oxide) so they endure the inherent arcing that relays create during the make and break cycles. The fuse holders are Weather Pack sealed units not shrink wrapped.
4. If you need pre sales and after sales support you get the guy that designed it and knows the kit. If you don't know if you have a single speed fan or a dual speed fan call us we'll tell you how to figure it out.
5. We believe in the durability of this kit so much we give it a full one year warranty, both on the kit and sensors. Not 90 days or Not 180 days, ONE YEAR, As long as you haven't modified the kit and sensors or lengthened the wires your covered. Ask the other guys for a one year warranty and see what they tell you.

7. We include all the wire, butt connectors, shrink tubing, ring terminals, terminal grease, relays and easy to follow instructions. You supply the battery stud, the fan and the fan plug. We do have fan plugs you can purchase from us if you don't have one.
8. I use this on my daily driver in the Houston summer 107F heat so it has to work correctly all the time because I'm not walking anywhere.
9. It works with the GM PCM for LSx and LT1. It will allow the PCM to control the Mark VIII fan
10. We use only SXL grade wire that can lay on a header for a few minutes and NOT burn or melt like GPT. It take 257* temps under the hood and is oils, fuel and abrasion resistant.

Yes we are always looking at the next version and how to make it a better more durable unit.
Using a 195F in addition to the 180F sensor will allow you to automatically step up and down from Low to High and back to Low as the coolant temperature raises and lowers. For normal driving the 180F takes care of most cooling needs but if you decide to go off road or need to tow something once it heats up the 195F the High speed kicks in without you having to flip a switch or be watching the gauge. And since the fan is already turning on Low prior to going into High speed the famous spike is much smaller and well within the relays capabilities.
I use the automatic setup in my truck and it works very well, I don't have to worry about flipping a switch and watching the temp gauge, it just does its thing. I do however recommend a minimum 105 Amp alternator due to the 45 amp high speed draw.
The kit in this auction is not designed to work with or operate the A/C. It is not a DC controller and will not make a one speed or variable speed Mark VIII fan a two speed fan. It is not designed to operate the Mark VIII on high speed only. Single speed and A/C versions are available.
We use 60 amp negative spike suppressed relays for a reason, 80 amp and 100 amp 4 prong relays can't provide that necessary negative spike suppression. Spike suppression is a needed protection against damaging your other electrics when the fan suddenly shuts off. Secondly the fan draws 45 amp on high speed if you need an 80 amp relay to run it then your fan is shot.
Why pay extra for higher rated amp relay that you don't need and not getting spike suppression that you do need.
